10:10 Morning session: Learning and Control Dynamics for Adaptive Teams
Presenter: Rod Willis
In a fast changing and increasingly complex world, it is those teams that can adapt, unafraid to try new ideas (to trip and learn) that will be most effective. Those able to flex and change quickly as the need requires, without losing cohesion and strategic direction, will be the ones that lead the way.
In order for this adaptation to be most likely to take place, the team needs to understand two core dynamics. The Learning and Control Dynamic and importantly how they interact with each other in a unique interplay for every team or group.
This session will use Gamification techniques enabling the participants to learn some new ideas.
Some of the core theory that informs this work is captured in a paper by Chris Argyris titled ‘Teaching Smart People How to Learn’. Feel free to search and read beforehand.
There will be a short coffee break during the morning.
14:00 Afternoon session: Getting the voice of the process HEARD - in the public sector, using the NHS as an example
Presenter: John Carlisle
Bringing Deming into the public sector realm, especially the NHS, mainly by simple applications of Statistical Process Control.
John will approach the subject from the perspective of the manager /user who is ready to be convinced to take a course of action. However they often know little about variation, or how useful it can be to chart it.
There will be a short refreshment break during the afternoon.
